Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
Brown Sugar Mixture
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg, then add the melted butter and buttermilk. Mix until well incorporated.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Stir until just combined, making sure not to overmix.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan, sprinkle half of the brown sugar mixture over it, then top with the remaining batter and finish with the rest of the sugar mixture on top.
Baking
  1. Place the loaf in the oven and bake for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Slice and indulge!

Notes

Don’t overmix the batter for best results. Consider adding a glaze of powdered sugar and milk for extra sweetness. Experiment with add-ins like nuts or raisins.
