  • 1 whole cucumber Gives a fresh, crunchy element.
Seasonings
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar Provides the signature tangy flavor to the rice.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Balances the rice’s acidity and enhances flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Enhances overall flavor.
  • to taste soy sauce For an umami boost when serving.
Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 cup shredded carrots Can add color and extra crunch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Rinse 1 cup of sushi rice until the water runs clear. Cook according to package instructions.
  2. Once done, mix 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and ½ teaspoon of salt into the warm rice. Let it cool slightly.
  3. While the rice cools, thinly slice the cucumber and avocado. If using carrots, shred them now.
  4. If using imitation crab meat, tear it into bite-sized pieces. Optionally, lightly season with soy sauce.
Assembly
  1. In bowls, start by adding a scoop of sushi rice as the base. Top it with sliced avocado, cucumber, and crab meat.
  2. Sprinkle sesame seeds and optionally add seaweed strips. Drizzle a little soy sauce over the top for extra flavor.
