Ingredients

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup apple cider Use high-quality apple cider for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted Allow to cool slightly before mixing.
  • 1/2 cup sugar Granulated sugar is ideal.
  • 1 large egg Room temperature egg preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract is best.
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Spoon and level flour for accuracy.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder Ensure it's fresh for best results.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Freshly ground for better flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg Freshly grated is recommended.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, bring the apple cider to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and let simmer until it’s reduced to about 1/2 cup. Allow to cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and the reduced apple cider. Whisk until nicely incorporated.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Spoon the batter into a greased donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
Baking
  1. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the donuts to cool for a few minutes in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving Suggestions
  1. Once cooled, consider rolling your donuts in sugar and cinnamon for an extra touch of indulgence.
